Days of the Week Worksheets – Fun & Educational Independent Work
As a homeschooling mom, I am always looking for unique resources to incorporate into our daily lesson plans.
But I'm picky! I want something that will:
engage and motivate my kids
be educational, or have a purpose
allow for independent work success
That's why I made these days of the week worksheets PDF file!
Helping Children Practice Working Independently
My days of the week worksheets are self-explanatory. You can set your child up with their work and be able to make a nice hot cup of coffee. Hello self-care & hello Boss Homeschool Mom!
I like setting you up with a resource where you can print any day of the week printable and have a two-fold, productive moment; one for yourself, one for your child.
I also like making educational activities and worksheets that are good for helping kids visualize what needs to be done without reading directions. This boosts success and confidence!
When young students know what comes next and feel successful working independently, they feel safe learning new concepts and don't need an adult hovering nearby.
Purposeful Learning Fun For Multiple Ages
They are perfect for all ages - from pre k (and kindergarten) children excited about what looks like big-kid work and practicing printing to first graders (or older!) who need a little extra practice until the spelling and sequencing sticks.

Generally, I'd say this can work as young as four but is most suited around that 5-7 age range—kindergarten to first grade students. But, you start teaching days of the week when your child is ready. You know your kid best!
With these days of the week worksheets parents can rest assured their students learn:
practice spelling the names of the days of the week
writing skills with tracing and writing the names of the week days
Recognizing and reading the names of the days of the week
Correct order of the week days
Yesterday and tomorrow concepts for days
Hands-on learning activities like cut and paste
Matching and connecting concepts (i.e., names of the days and their abbreviations)
Why Use Printables For Teaching The Days Of The Week
Make Abstract Concepts More Concrete
Learning the days of the week is essential for children, and time is such an abstract concept!
I like to use these printable worksheets because seeing the names of the days of the week on paper makes it more concrete. This is the same for teaching months of the year, or seasons. Kids need something concrete to link their learning with.
Related: Pair a Days of the Week worksheet with the calendar printables found in the Months of the Year resource!
With these Days of the Week printables, students learn to recognize and read the word, practice spelling, learn the days sequencing, and so much more!
Save Money!
Also, being a PDF file, each day of the week worksheet is reusable! Simply print them out again if needed, which makes them a great way to save money.
Some moms put them into sheet protectors and use fine-tip dry-erase markers to reduce printing. I use that method for some curricula, but not this. Instead, I print these worksheets out as many times as needed. My kids like to write them out in different colors!
Learn On The Go
Their portability makes them perfect for on-the-go learning. I've plopped these worksheets into binders and had my daughter do them at Panera (a favorite not-homeschool location for us!)
What You'll Need to Get Started
Grab some erasable colored pencils - trust me, these will be your new best friend for motivating blah kids. Seriously, give your kids some colored pencils that gasp… erase (magic!), and your kids will stay inspired to write all day long (or at least for the lesson!) They can do their work with pizazz and still be able to erase mistakes!
Next, print the days of the week worksheets. These handy PDFs are all one file you can easily find it on your computer. You can download and print a single page at a time or print everything at once!
Wall Calendar or Pocket Chart
A wall calendar is excellent for helping kid visualize the order of the days and how it's set up. The big pocket charts (mine is from 2011 - linked is the closest to what I have with weather & holidays) are also great for having interactive preschool days and letting your child learn with their hands.
We love incorporating the calendar and weather into our morning routine! We cover so much: math, science, calendar skills (seasons, days of the week, months of the year,) weather, clothing choices, etc.
We’ve had this giant pocket chart for years! I like to put post-its over the dates with pictures for my pre-reading kids - like a soccer ball for soccer practice
At that age, I like to have the kids set up the new month for some more calendar learning awesome kinesthetic learning!
Make Learning the Days of the Week Even More Fun

Printables can be incredibly fun and effective when teaching your kids the days of the week.
Remember to take it slow and steady; in the beginning, focus on one day at a time.
The learning process can be different for each child. Some kids pick this up quickly, while others take years to grasp these calendar skills. So don't rush or put too much pressure on them - it will click at some point!
